What We Know About the Fatalities of the Bondi Beach Terrorist Incident
A minimum of 16 individuals lost their lives and in excess of 40 were hurt when gunmen opened fire at a Hanukah celebration at Bondi Beach, an attack Australian authorities have called a act of terrorism.
As of the newest reports, officials have confirmed the number of fatalities remains at 16, including one of the alleged gunmen. Furthermore, 42 wounded individuals were transported to hospital.
Those who died are still awaiting formally identified, but authorities state their ages are between 10 and 87 years old.

Eli Schlanger
Originally from London clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first victim to be named.
Reportedly a father-of-five, he was the assistant rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Relatives and friends described him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very warm outgoing person who loved to help people”.
“How can a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?” a family member remarked.
Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the birth of their newest son in October.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, according to his wife.
She told the moments before the attack, stating they had been standing together when the gunfire erupted. “He pushed his body up because he wanted to stay near me,” she recalled.
The pair were both survivors of the Holocaust, having endured immense hardship in their childhood. They had later relocated to Australia from Eastern Europe.
Dan Elkayam
The French foreign ministry have confirmed that French man Dan Elkayam is among the victims.
In a statement, a senior official said that France stood with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This despicable act is a new, tragic manifestation of a disgusting rise of hatred against Jews that we must eradicate,” the statement continued.
One Child
A child who was rushed to the Sydney Children’s Hospital succumbed to her injuries, authorities stated.
One Israeli Citizen
A national of Israel was among those killed during the attack, according to multiple sources referencing the Israeli government.
Those Injured
From the 42 people transported to hospital, many remain under care, with several in critical condition. Those hurt comprise two police officers who attended the scene.
A wounded man is a bystander who attempted to intervene to tackle one of the gunmen. Described as a hero, he sustained bullet wounds but is in stable condition in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. It has been reported he was injured and underwent treatment in hospital.
In a message, he recounted the scene as an “absolute bloodbath,” but also praised the actions of those who rushed to help. He said he believed it was a “stroke of luck” he was alive.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was another casualty in the shooting. He described he listened to “a large number” of gunshots.
“Initially, I believed it was rubber bullets, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I was hit. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
