US President Donald Trump Affirms 'Largely, Agreement Exists' on Following Steps of Truce Agreement for Gaza
President Trump has remarked that "in general, agreement exists" on how the subsequent phases of the peace deal in Gaza will proceed, though he acknowledged that "a few particulars … will be worked out."
"They're gathering them now," Trump stated, referring to the captives yet to be freed in the Gaza Strip. "They're in some quite harsh situations."
The US president, who has been commended by the group and many in Israel for his involvement in brokering a truce agreement, said he believes the agreement will "be sustained" because "both sides are tired of the fighting."
Planned Conference on Gaza Situation
At the same time, Trump intends to assemble world leaders for a high-level meeting on Gaza during his trip to the Arab Republic of Egypt next week. Participants expected to take part are officials from the Federal Republic of Germany, France, the United Kingdom, the Italian Republic, Qatar, the Emirates, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and the Republic of Indonesia.
Based on information, the Israeli leader will be absent.
Trump's Itinerary
He stated that he would meet a "numerous leaders" in the city on Monday to talk about the direction of the territory. Sources indicate that he will also visit the State of Israel, where he will speak before the legislative body.
Significant Events
- Tens of thousands of Palestinians made their way to the largely ruined northern Gaza Strip on the end of the week as a American-negotiated truce came into effect. Those still 48 hostages—some 20 of them thought to be living—are scheduled to be let go by Monday.
- Uncertainties persist over leadership in Gaza as Israeli troops retreat step by step and if Hamas will relinquish arms, as required in Trump's ceasefire plan. PM Netanyahu, who unilaterally ended a truce in last March, suggested that the country might restart its military campaign if the group does not surrender its weapons.
- The United Nations was granted permission by Israeli authorities to commence providing expanded humanitarian assistance into the Gaza Strip starting on the weekend. This assistance will involve 170,000 metric tons that have been pre-positioned in adjacent states such as the Kingdom of Jordan and the Arab Republic of Egypt as humanitarian officials were waiting for clearance from the army to recommence their efforts.
- UN spokesperson the spokesman told the press on the end of the week that fuel, medical supplies, and essential items have started flowing through the Kerem Shalom crossing. Agency staff want Israel to unseal further crossing points and ensure secure passage for aid workers and civilians who are coming back to areas in Gaza that were experiencing severe attacks up until lately.
- The leader the head of state denounced Israel on the weekend for executing overnight strikes on civilian facilities that the health authority said killed at least one person. "For another time, the region has been the object of a heinous Israeli aggression against civilian installations—with no valid reason or pretext," Aoun stated.
- Israel provided a inventory of the Palestinian detainees that it intends to free as in accordance with the truce deal made with the group. Of the 250 Palestinian prisoners, 15 will be released in East Jerusalem, 100 to the West Bank, and the remainder will be sent abroad. Initially, when Hamas officials presented a roster of recommended inmates to be released to mediators in Egypt, they called for the release of high-profile Palestinian political figures such as the figure. However, the prime minister's team stated it will not agree to release the individual.
