The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional activity:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
