The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
It might not have been at the same level as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future without fear.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a first responder, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people yelling “6-7” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: vibrant, varied, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Annually, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
