The former Liverpool manager states coming back to lead Liverpool is conceivable.
Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback is something that could happen. Klopp, following a hugely successful nine-season tenure featuring a European Cup triumph and the Reds’ first league title for three decades, has since taken on roles as head of global soccer for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
The club claimed the league title last season, though countless followers who adore the manager would welcome the notion that he may eventually return. During an extensive chat, he shared with his interviewer: “I stated I won't manage another team in England. Therefore should it be the Reds...yes. It's plausible.”
“At 58 years old, so the choice could be mine in a few years, who knows. Is a decision required immediately? In that case, I'd stay away. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I can just see what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about which situations would have to unfold to bring him back to the dugout, he revealed he isn't eager toward coming back. “I don’t even know exactly, My present work fulfills me,” he stated. “No longing for management; No desire to be under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for media briefings four times, three times a week or having 10-12 interviews each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, but sitting in a restaurant with the team having a nice chat, I appreciate that. Success was frequent meaning regularly great spirits in the building. I can still hear Van Dijk's laughter in my ear to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly of the current boss, crediting him due to the changes which secured the championship in the previous season. They've been defeated a string of losses across various tournaments post heavy investment, though he denied the suggestion of it representing a decline.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. An outstanding player. [Hugo] Ekitike, superb talent. It’s a really good thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry about Liverpool, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in in 2020, and the effect for the team. The Portugal international lost his life in a road accident alongside his brother in July.
“Can you substitute a person like him? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the team environment absent his presence. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. It was an incredible shock for his teammates also. Nobody at Liverpool might employ it for poor performances yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Handling this on a personal level is not easy. Overwhelming.”
