Netflix Casts Perfect Star for Bentham in One Piece Third Season
Baroque Works is geared up to exert significant influence in the next installment of Netflix’s show of One Piece, even if the real showdown won’t unfold until the next season, and a adored, fan-favorite member has now been chosen.
Netflix announced Tuesday that Cole Escola will appear in the One Piece season 3 cast and will portray Bon Clay. The role can use their power to transform into an exact copy of any person they’ve made contact with with their right hand. The actor, who is gender non-conforming and prefers they/them pronouns, will portray a rendition of that character reimagined as non-binary identifying, instead of as a drag performer, in the real-life adaptation, differing from the source material and anime.
The new cast member is joined by multiple new cast members set to bring the organization to life, including leader Mr. 0, played by the seasoned performer, Sophia Anne Caruso as another operative, and an accomplished actor, who is also part of the ensemble as King Nefertari Cobra of Alabasta.
Even though the role is a key figure of Baroque Works, the persona will be introduced in One Piece the upcoming installment. With season 2 set to cover the Little Garden arc, this marks a significant shift in the placement of the character’s debut, one that could signal further changes to the story’s structure.
Escola’s blend of sharp comedic timing and emotional depth makes them a perfect fit for the part. In addition to their latest vocal work in the animated coming-of-age film Boys Go to Jupiter, they earned widespread acclaim and numerous honors for writing and starring in the successful stage production Oh Mary!, showcasing the versatility they’ll bring to one of One Piece’s widely praised characters.
The streaming service’s real-life One Piece show is due to premiere for its second season on March 10, 2026.
