Music Legend Barry Manilow to Undergo an Operation for Cancer in His Lung.

Barry Manilow has revealed that he was diagnosed with a cancerous growth in his lung and will be having an operation.

Early-Stage Diagnosis

The legendary 82-year-old artist, known for a string of beloved anthems from "I Write the Songs" has made him one of pop music’s cherished entertainers, will have an operation to extract a portion of his lung in an effort to combat the disease, which is in its early stages.

“For those who have been following, I recently went through six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks.

“Even though I was over the bronchitis and returned to the spotlight at the Westgate Las Vegas, my wonderful doctor insisted on an MRI just to ensure that there were no issues.

“The MRI discovered a tumor on my left side that requires removed. It’s incredible chance (and a fantastic physician) that it was discovered so early.”

Concert Delays

He has postponed a series of forthcoming shows, but stated he would be back on stage by Valentine’s Day for his enduring engagement at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino.

He added: “The doctors do not believe it has traveled and I’m having examinations to support their conclusion. So, that’s it. No chemotherapy. No radiation. Just chicken soup and classic TV.

“I’m counting the days until I rejoin my second home at the Westgate Las Vegas for our February love-themed shows.”

Decades in the Spotlight

Manilow is now in the 16th year of a show at the Westgate Las Vegas. The singer has enjoyed a career spanning many years in the public eye and publicly identified as gay in 2017, after marrying his partner of many years, Garry Kief confidentially in 2014.

The duo were in a private romance for in excess of 35 years. Last year, Manilow reflected on how vital his partner had been to him during his rise to peak fame in the 1970s.

“As my career exploded, it was just overwhelming. And, you know, returning to an vacant room, you can find yourself in a lot of problems if you, you know, you’re on your own evening after evening,” he said.

“But I found my partner right around when it was blowing up. And I was spared from having to go back to those isolated suites. I had a person to share sorrows with or to enjoy success with.

“I wish that aspiring artists don’t have to go back to those hotel rooms by themselves, because you get yourself in trouble. I never did. But it was very solitary until I met Garry. And then it was a shared adventure.”
