Line of Duty Confirmed for 7th Series on BBC
The beloved crime series AC-12 is officially returning for its 7th season, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-part series created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the production team.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."
The previous season wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that attracted over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been circulating for some time, but official word only came this week.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue tasked to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio are assigned their "most delicate case so far."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for busts of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to act as a offender.
Yet, this investigation might serve as a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still operating in the background, plot details hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had so many followers track the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a new installment."
He added: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston called appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he added.
Vicky McClure remarked: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."
"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."
Series Legacy
The drama launched in the early 2010s and became one of the most popular television series of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Lennie James.
The BBC haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will premiere.
The finale of series six drew the long-running storyline about the hunt for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and the creative team said at the moment there were no plans for further series.
Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on this week that a new season is now being produced.
