Democratic officials expressed anger after the ex-president alleged a coalition of Democratic representatives of being "betrayers" and asserted they should be taken into custody and punished "through capital punishment" following their release of a disputed video.

The Recording That Provoked the Controversy

The video footage, released on earlier this week, includes six Democratic elected officials who formerly acted in armed forces or defense capacities.

"Similar to us, you all swore an oath to safeguard and support this founding document," the officials stated in the short video. "And right now, the dangers to our democratic foundation aren't just from overseas, but from domestically. Our laws are explicit, you can refuse unlawful commands, you can decline illegal orders, you should reject illegal orders. No one has to carry out orders that contravene the legal system or our national charter."

The Former President's Furious Response

The video message appeared to provoke a furious reply from the previous commander-in-chief.

On Thursday morning, Trump wrote on his preferred platform: "This constitutes SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our Nation should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In another publication, he declared: "This constitutes really bad, and Dangerous to our United States. Their statements cannot be allowed to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a subsequent post, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!" He also redistributed a statement that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Party Representatives Answer

Following Trump's comments on Thursday, Top Democrats released a joint statement condemning the statements.

"Violent politics has no role in this nation," they declared. "Representatives who were featured in the video all acted our United States with exceptional loyalty and excellence. We unequivocally denounce Donald Trump's appalling and harmful threats of violence against elected officials, and appeal to GOP representatives to vigorously do the same."

The Democratic leaders also said that they had been in communication with security officials "to make certain the security of these representatives and their families."

"Donald Trump must without delay remove these unhinged online messages and retract his violent discourse before he leads to violence," the statement stated.

Officials' Strong Response

The lawmakers who were featured in the video also issued a statement.

"We serve as veterans and security experts who value this United States and took an vow to safeguard and defend the constitution of the United States," they declared. "That oath lasts a lifetime, and we aim to maintain it. No warning, pressure, or promotion of aggression will deter us from that important obligation."

"What's most telling is that the ex-president views it punishable by capital punishment for us to reiterate the statutes," they continued. "Military personnel should recognize that we have their backs as they carry out their pledge to the national charter and responsibility to obey only lawful orders. It is not only the right thing to do, but also our duty."

They continued: "The entire nation must come together and condemn the former president's requests for our death and partisan aggression. This is a period for principled stance."

More Partisan Reactions

The Senate Democratic leader also censured Trump's comments and posted on digital platforms: "We must be absolutely clear: the ex-commander in chief is demanding the execution of public representatives."

He stated: "This represents an clear THREAT. All senators, all representatives, the entire nation – without partisan consideration – should censure this immediately and without qualification."

The Conservative official defended Trump's allegation that the Democrats had been involved in "sedition", labeling the video as "wildly inappropriate", adding: "This represents very dangerous, you have leading members of Congress advising military personnel to ignore directives, I think that is without precedent in US history."

The Conservative representative also according to sources informed media outlets that in what he read of Trump's messages, Trump was "defining the offense of rebellion" but that "lawyers have to parse the wording and establish all that."

Executive Branch Statement

During a White House press conference on later that day, when inquired by a media member, "Is the president want to execute members of Congress?", the White House press secretary replied: "No."

"Let's be clear about what the former president is addressing," the spokesperson declared. "You have current representatives of the US Congress who conspired to organize a digital communication to members of the US military, to active duty service members encouraging them to ignore the commander in chief's lawful orders."

She stated: "The sanctity of our defense system relies on the chain of command, and if that chain of command is broken, it can result in people getting killed, it can lead to confusion, and that is exactly what these congressional representatives ... are basically promoting."
