Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking British fashion designer responsible for some of the most iconic looks worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died aged 80.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and performative fashion, most notably the light-hued ensembles that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

His passing follows shortly after he debuted his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price moved to London at the start of the 1960s to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A long-time collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in crafting form-fitting garments established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he began working on outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including several ensembles for her US tour after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price presented his final runway show in London recently in partnership with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Performative Style: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

Design circles says farewell to a true visionary whose legacy on fashion and music remains profoundly felt.
