Both Deceased Students Named in Brown University Attack as Authorities Persist in Manhunt for Gunman.

Both young individuals who were killed in the weekend's tragic incident at Brown University were being remembered Monday – while an intensive search for their shooter continued following the discharge by local law enforcement of the sole person questioned in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was called “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, per the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a service on Sunday.

Her role included the vice-presidency of Brown’s branch of the campus GOP group, the group said. Karoline Leavitt also shared condolences publicly, saying in part: “There are no words. Remembering her kin and peers, above all her mom and dad.”

The Second Victim

The second fatality was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the prestigious university, according to relatives.

The victim's identification was verified by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He had big dreams of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and aiding others,” his sibling Samira said in a tribute.

The Shooting Incident

Nine other people were wounded in the violent event in the engineering department of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Authorities said by the end of Sunday that a 24-year-old male detained in a raid at a hotel about 17 miles from the scene earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“We have a murderer out there,” declared Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

Neronha explained, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you need to change course and go in another, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last 24 hours or so.”

Ongoing Concerns

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, noted: “We know that this is likely to cause new worry for our community”.

The assailant opened fire inside a lecture hall in the building on Saturday, discharging in excess of 40 shots from a 9mm handgun, a law enforcement official told the media outlet.

Police that searched the lodging seized a pair of pistols and two ammunition clips when the individual was detained, as was reported.

Those Hurt

Of the nine hurt, a single scholar was released from the hospital, mentioned Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in grave but unchanging health, and one was in critical condition, officials reported on Sunday.

A private school, a private K-12 school in North Carolina, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was one of the critically injured.

More Condolences

Tributes were paid to Cook at a religious service in Birmingham on Sunday. A pastor commented, “She was an incredible, grounded, faithful bright light not only here growing up... but at the university she was a shining example in that particular place as well.”

The president of College Republicans, Martin Bertao, released remarks from the group. “Ella was recognized for her fearless, heroic, and gentle spirit as she aided her club and fellow classmates,” he said.

Jonathan Henick, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by the passing of Umurzokov in a tribute. “Our profound condolences go out to his relatives, companions, and peers and mourn the loss of his promising future.”
