Arsenal's goalkeeper Highlights Team's Strength as Key to Silverware Ambitions
David Raya has declared that intense competition for first-team spots is propelling Arsenal's outstanding run, with the goalkeeper believing that the squad's depth under Mikel Arteta is so remarkable that they can challenge for several trophies throughout the campaign.
Stunning Wins Highlight The Gunners' Strength
The North London club's recent comprehensive win over Atlético Madrid marked their six consecutive wins and tenth triumph in a dozen games. With only three goals conceded—the fewest at this stage in the team's legacy—they have established a one-point lead at the Premier League summit and a perfect record in the European competition after three outings.
Rotation and Depth Key to Achievements
The goalkeeper has started in nearly every game, except for one domestic cup encounter, but the manager has consistently rotated the lineup following heavy spending on new signings. When asked about competing for multiple trophies, he said, "Yes, I think so. Our squad strength is amazing. There are many players who can perform in multiple roles."
For instance, against Atlético, Mikel Merino was introduced as a striker and can also play as a No 8 or attacking midfielder. Such flexibility is what the boss has, and he's using it to benefit the team. It's looking extremely promising, and that depth is crucial for us.
Competition Elevates Performance
Raya added, "That provides an extra level in training and matches because if you slack off, your place is at risk instantly. It creates intense rivalry in training and on the pitch, which is vitally significant, and everyone is on board."
Defensive Solidity a Collective Effort
Arsenal have let in just a single goal from regular play so far, and the keeper has faced only one shot on target in their last three wins against Atlético, Fulham, and West Ham.
"It's a collective effort from the forwards to the goalie," he said. "Everyone is focused, no one wants to concede, and we aim to intercept passes prior to it crossing the midfield. By winning it back, we can launch a fast break. It's crucial for everyone to feel this mentality, and we're not allowing numerous opportunities, which is ideal."
