Arne Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's expected for doubts to be asked about his future after another convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the club's worst streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received significant support from management,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points naturally but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the team officials, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I feel the belief. But I've not talked to them since this match yet so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Problems and Player Response
Slot expressed regret over known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a spell like this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones concluded, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we will always battle.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to where it needs to be, prove once more the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
